This is one of my husband’s current projects, a nest for the first grade play. Since we don’t have any first graders this year I don’t know anything about the show, except that the set contains a nest, which will contain several first-grader-sized baby birds.

First Matthew constructed a frame of sticks and plywood,

then he added bark to the front and wove sticks and vines onto the frame to make a nest.

This is all green wood that others had discarded. Nothing new was cut or stripped for the project.

As always, our Helper Henry was nearby, making sure everything was secure. Even with a wind chill of 4 degrees, he was there to lend a hand, especially with the drilling.

It’s so pretty, I want to keep it after the show. Not that we have much room in our yard, but doesn’t it look fun to play in?

And yes, Henry is sporting his favorite Green H hat and Matthew is wearing The Death Star Hat.
