The Half-Birthdays

Some years ago, when Betsy was little and we had three family birthdays in August and just hers in February, she was feeling a bit left out at the end of the summer and asked if we could maybe do something to celebrate her half-birthday. Having one of those summer birthdays myself and remember how left out I felt during in-class birthday parties, I agreed, on a few conditions.

  1. It couldn’t be a birthday celebration. No cake, no presents, no fancy dinner.
  2. It had to be something simple that we’d enjoy replicating. For all of us. For many years.

So what is the opposite of a fancy birthday dinner?

Breakfast for dinner!

The half-birthday honoree gets to pick the breakfast foods.

And we can wear our pajamas to the table if we want!

Yes! Happy half-birthdays to us!
