The Halloween Costume Recap

Halloween Detritus

Ah, November first, with all your discarded candy wrappers and your feels-way-too-early school bus arrival.

Our family was quite the fantastic group for Halloween this year.

We had our Queen, who self-styled her outfit from dress up items. Here is her fabulous daytime look,

and here is her elegant evening look, which features a crown that her dad added lights to, because lights.

Next up is the Star Wars Bunch, including Rey, R2D2 and C3PO (or 3PPO, as R2 kept calling me).

“Take more pictures!” the children cry. “We are not at all ready to get on with the trick-or-treating!”

Matthew made my C3PO mid-section from plastic chicken wire covered in black duct tape, and attached a bunch of wires. I crocheted the headband and circle thing on my front. All of this was stuff we had around the house. (What, you don’t have a box of random wires?)

Ray’s shirt, pants, and boots were purchased, I dyed the brownish fabric, and the rest of the accessories we already owned. (What, you don’t have a leather wristband thing?)

I crocheted R2D2’s hat, and the body is a laundry hamper from ThinkGeek. I carefully removed the bottom piece with a seam ripper, and hand-sewed straps to the top. The button on the front, when pushed, makes R2D2 sounds. It involved Matthew, sound, soldering and the repurposing of a bath toy cup.

And finally, there are some who call him Tim…

Tim the Enchanter.

Yes, he did made himself a flaming staff, and yes, that bright light above him is a fireball he just threw. The hat was purchased and I’d made him the cloak years ago.

So. Yeay Halloween!

In other news, in an effort to be more disciplined, I’m participating in both NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo this year. I’ve done them both in the past, but I’m not sure if I’ve ever done them together. Here’s how I’m doing on the goals so far:

The Novel: 2,273/50,000 words. I should be at 1667 today to stay on track, but I usually aim for at least 2,000 per day so I have a little bit of a cushion, in case I need a day off.

The Blog: 1/30, and I should be at 1 today.

Now that I’ve done the fun stuff, I should probably begin cleaning up from Halloween, right?
